Introduction

The Department of Physics is one of the oldest and the largest departments in the college. It has two well-maintained laboratories which have been upgraded recently with new equipments, and a computer laboratory with internet connections to aid the learning process and meet the practical needs of the students. In addition, the department has an electronic workshop in which the students can carry out their project works, play around with the concepts of physics and exhibit their creative skills. The department also has a library of its own with more than 500 books covering different fields of physics.

Efforts are made by faculty members to update the holdings on a year-to-year basis.

The Department has a highly qualified and a dedicated faculty, some of whom have worked abroad on various teaching and research assignments while some are authors of repute. In addition to the teaching of B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics, the department also has the onus of running B. Sc. Physical Sciences and B. Sc. Appied Physical Sciences (Electronics) Our students have consistently performed well in the university examinations securing top positions. They have been getting admission in Science and Engineering courses of reputed universities in India and abroad. Our students have also carved their niche in various professional areas - civil services, defence services, management, R&D's (pharmacenticals, industries) etc. 'EUREKA' the Physics Society organises its annual festival 'QUARKS' begining with the release of its magazine - QUARKS. Among the various colours of the festival that includes paper reading, quizzing, debating, poster making competition etc. the lecture series and panel discussions by eminent physicists remains the major highlight.
