Introduction
Hindu College is not only one of the most distinguished under-graduate educational institutions of the
country, it also is the first choice of the students for the study of Sanskrit language and literature. It has
talented and accomplished faculty members. Their high degree of academic and professional
proficiency is evidenced by their commendable academic work. Dr. Anita Rajpal is a dedicated
teacher and a scholar in the field of philosophy, poetics and Sanskrit literature. She is interested in
interpreting philosophical texts from a modern point of view, and endeavours to inculcate a scientific
approach to the study of Sanskrit in the students of the Department. She has been awarded a research
fellowship by the U.G.C. Dr. Rajendra Kumar is a dedicated teacher, a scholar of Poetics, accelarator
of students potentiality, motivator and a dedicated Research Guide and author of two books. Dr. Vijay
Garg is an enthusiastic scholar who has also worked on Poetics. He has interest in Computer
applications too. Dr. Balram Shukla, the topper in M.A. Delhi University in 2003, is a valuer of the
culture & traditions of India. His area of research is Grammar and Linguistics.
The Department offers B.A. Programme, B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. Courses with an emphasis on
reading the original texts and sources. The stud1e0nts are also introduced to critical analysis through
commentaries and other modern approaches. The department also offers concurrent, qualifying
and Interdisciplinary courses (Nationalism and Indian Literature) for first year and concurrent paper
for second year Honours courses.
Sanskrit department initiated its own library with most useful books for the benefit of the students.
Its endeavour is to impart quality instruction to the students. It is sincerely hoped that the students
joining the Department, will find themselves in a most congenial atmosphere for their studies
throughout their stay in college.
