Introduction
History is one of the oldest disciplines taught in Hindu College. Its students are drawn from all over the country and have over the years attained distinction in different spheres ranging from research, social analysis, law, administrative services to films. The Department has a lively History Society which has been successfully organizing seminars, discipline-related trips and history festivals.
History Department also has the distinction to have its own well-equipped library that is run under the supervision of a teacher of the Department. Each student can enroll himself/herself as a member of the Department Library on annual basis by paying a nominal subscription of Rs. 100/- only.
There are seven members of the teaching faculty specializing in different areas of Indian History.
The faculty possesses good expertise in non-Indian history too. Several members of the faculty are engaged in research, and most of the members have been acquiring more linguistic expertise for their research. The faculty, in keeping with the nature of its discipline, is sensitive to social issues and is known for its capacity for debate within itself.
For First Year Honours students, the Interdisciplinary Course offered by the department is Environmental Issues in India, and in the Second Year, the two Concurrent Courses are:

b) Culture in India : Ancient
